SMS Consent: On-Call Alerts Verbal Consent Script

Sierra Experts Inc. sends Sierra Experts On-Call Alerts text messages only to its own employees and contractors on the on-call engineering rotation. A supervisor or NOC manager reads the script below, by phone or in person, before enrolling an engineer’s mobile number. No number is enrolled without an explicit “yes”.

Script

“Hi [engineer’s name], this is [your name], [your title] at Sierra Experts Inc. I’d like to sign you up for Sierra Experts On-Call Alerts. These are automated text messages from Sierra Experts that alert you to customer service issues and incidents, like new or escalated tickets, monitoring alerts and outages, when you’re on call. They aren’t marketing messages.

The number I have for you is [read the mobile number back]. Is that the right number?

Message frequency varies with incidents and your on-call shifts. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out, and reply HELP for help. Agreeing isn’t a condition of your employment or contract. Our terms are at sierraexperts.com/terms-and-conditions and our privacy policy is at sierraexperts.com/privacy-policy.

Do you agree to receive Sierra Experts On-Call Alerts text messages at that number?”

Wait for a clear “yes”. If the answer is “no”, unclear, or the person hesitates, do not enroll the number.

Recording consent

After a “yes”, record the consent in the engineer’s on-call enrollment record or ticket, including:

  • the date and time consent was given;
  • the mobile number enrolled, as confirmed by the engineer;
  • the name of the supervisor or NOC manager who read the script and enrolled the number; and
  • a note that the script on this page was read and the engineer said “yes”.

If an engineer replies STOP, the number is removed from alerts and is only re-enrolled after a new verbal consent.
