November Employee Spotlight: Stephen Kaechele

Server infrastructure, virtualization, and colocation can all seem like pretty intimidating words if you’ve never heard them before. These are just a few types of IT services that we offer here at Sierra. We provide various managed services across the board, and we hire people like Stephen Kaechele to ensure that all our customer’s needs are taken care of. In fact, Stephen does his job as a Tier 3 Systems Engineer so efficiently that we chose him to be this month’s employee spotlight.

As a Tier 3 Systems Engineer, Stephen’s day-to-day is never quite the same, but when asking him what his job consists most of he replied,

“I do a lot of tier 3 technical support for our customers. I design and implement enterprise server and storage infrastructures. Then, I continue support once they’re up and running.”

Stephen’s favorite part of the process is getting the opportunity to be creative, and design new infrastructures for customers. He finds it both fun and fascinating to be able to pick out the individual hardware for each particular environment. One specific project that he really enjoyed was creating and implementing a VMWare environment for Magee Plastics. Stephen says that getting to work on projects he enjoys and gaining experience with new stephen headshottechnologies in the field are what makes his job worth it at the end of a long day.

As if his job isn’t impressive enough, Stephen is self-taught in his craft. He got his diploma from Freedom Area High School, but then branched out on his own to learn about server operations and to complete a multitude of certificates in the field. Some of those certificates include: Apple Certified Systems Administrator (ACSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Certified SonicWALL Security Administrator (CSSA), and many more.

Stephen recalls his journey in Server Operations beginning when he worked previously at MacOutfitters as the Service Manager of Western PA. On top of being a certified Apple repair specialist, he also performed duties as an On-Site Tech where he’d go to businesses and set up Apple servers within corporate environments focusing primarily on cross-platform integration with Microsoft servers. His job setting up those environments transitioned nicely into what he does today at Sierra Experts.

When Stephen isn’t at work, he enjoys spending time with his three daughters: Nevaeh, Kaeleigh, and Keira, as well as his wife, Stephanie. Also, every now and then he likes sparring and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, something he used to do professionally in his early twenties.

Stephen’s got the knowledge bundled with the experience to handle any type of complex project you can think of. If your company is considering the switch to a virtual environment to better utilize your storage and server hardware, you can count on Stephen to get the job done right.
