2022 Tech Trends

As we enter this new year, it is important to look at some new and exciting tech-based trends that will be taking over the technology realm in 2022. From robotics to social media, here is a list of all the new trends to look out for.

1. Cryptocurrency

Over the most recent years, cryptocurrency has had much success. Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies that use encryption to regulate their supply. They are used to conduct financial transactions, like purchasing or selling goods. According to cnet.com, cryptocurrency is going to be continuing into mainstream. Meaning, big companies are going to be figuring out how cryptocurrencies fit into their business.

2. Metaverse

In 2021, we heard about the Metaverse and how it is the combination of realities, virtual and augmented. Companies like Microsoft and Nvidia have joined the journey of creating the future of the internet. We will be seeing more forms of virtual reality devices in 2022. Including PlayStation VR2 and updates to phone connected hardware like the Oculus Quest. The Metaverse will be doing some heavy rebranding in 2022 to help people better understand the goals and ideas behind this joining of realities.

3. Artificial Intelligence

It is expected that Artificial Intelligence (AI), will be expanding its influence this upcoming year. Meaning, we will be seeing AI implemented in more industries. Some of the industries being discussed right now are healthcare, cybersecurity, production, and automobiles. The goal of implementing AI is to utilize machine learning, predictive analytics, and classification tools for marketing purposes and fraud detection. All these implementations are to increase knowledge in these industries. Don’t worry, we won’t have robots walking amongst us just yet… maybe next year.

4. Cloud Computing

Cloud computing infrastructure is the backbone of the delivery pipeline of just about every digital service. We will be seeing a lot more cloud computing trends in 2022 and beyond. The 5 biggest trends to look for this year are:

  1. Cloud Virtual Reality (VR) and Cloud Augmented Reality (AR)
  2. Sustainability meaning most of the tech giants will spend 2022 implementing measures and innovations aimed at helping them achieve their net-zero carbon aspirations.
  3. Hybrid Cloud which models that adopt a best-of-both-worlds approach. It will blur the distinction between public and private clouds.
  4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cloud computing.
  5. Serverless Cloud is a relatively new concept that’s gaining traction in the market from providers including Amazon, Microsoft, and IBM Cloud Functions.

5. 3D Printing

In 2022 we will be seeing more accessible supplies and models of 3D printers. As the demand and equipment prices decrease, 3D printers will be used more for productionpersonal, and professional purposes in various industries. This is great news considering how expensive it was to 3D print these past couple years. The decrease in price of materials and more access to 3D printers is going to shape many industries in the upcoming year and beyond.

6. Medical Robotics

Medical robots assist with surgery, streamline hospital logistics, and enable providers to give more direct attention to patients. Robots in the medical field are transforming how surgeries are performing, streamlining supply delivery and disinfection, and freeing up time for providers to engage with patients. Medical robotics will lower the risk of infection, surgical error and malpractice, and decisions that lack empirical reasoning. A majority of medical robots are currently in use in Japan, and will soon be readily available in many other countries this coming year.

7. Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is the branch of technology that deals with dimensions and tolerances of less than 100 nanometers. It is the manipulation of individual atoms and molecules. We will be seeing this in the medical and science fields a lot more this year. One area we will see this implemented is for environmental clean-up which includes water filtration and groundwater strategies.
